A Love Story: Alex + Caroline’s Maryland Wedding
Alex and Caroline’s love story is an wild tale about how two people met, fell in love, and started their life together beginning with their Maryland wedding. Their Maryland wedding proved to be a beautiful event held at the Antrim 1844 Country House Hotel. The Antrim’s grounds were absolutely stunning with the ceremony taking place in the rose garden, a lavish courtyard fountain, and an elegant dinner setting. Some of the neatest handmade wedding items include the guest book tree, Caroline’s fascinator, homemade honey, and flower decor. The bride Caroline tells us, “To make a very long story short, Alex and I are one of those sickening “online dating success stories”. I contacted him on OKCupid almost 5 years ago and we hit it off through emails and chat. During this time, Alex was in the process of applying for a teaching position in the Peace Corps. We never did have a chance to meet in person before he left to teach English in Bulgaria for 2.5 years! Needless to say, we both wrote off any romantic ideas we may have had, but decided to keep in touch as friends. We communicated almost daily as pen-pals, bonding over long conversations about travel, food, books, film, games, and politics. Both of us were in and out of other relationships during this time, but as luck would have it we were both unattached by the time we finally met. As Alex’s return to the states grew closer, my friends were started to hear rumblings about a certain “Peace Corps Boy”.
We met in person 2 years ago yesterday (8/22/09) in Washington, DC. The shift from friendship to relationship was so immediate and natural that it surprised us both! Alex eventually found a job with a small non-profit in Baltimore and moved into a tiny apartment in Hampden. I was working at JHU as a lab manager at the time, living in a family home in Baltimore County. When Alex found out he’d been admitted to Vermont Law in March of last year, things took a turn for the serious. Not knowing what the future held, we moved in together in April to spend as much time together as possible before he moved away. Little did I know he’d been planning to propose! On July 5th, 2010, my best friend Danielle wove a brilliant web of deception to get me out of the house for the afternoon while Alex cooked up a 5-star French dinner. He surprised me when I walked in the door with a beautiful speech, an amazing meal, and a ring!
In the fall of 2010 we moved up to central Vermont – him for law school, me to begin my new career in clinical research at Dartmouth College. We’ve been fortunate to indulge in our mutual love of gourmet cooking, sailing, home brewing, gaming, camping, and attending music & arts festivals. One year later, we’ve made it through that first year of law school, a record-setting winter in Vermont, housebreaking a puppy during said record-setting winter, and the epic thrill ride of long-distance wedding planning. We couldn’t be happier with the way things turned out on our wedding day, and we’re looking forward to our future together!”
